Visiting this website
The website runs on a server I administer at netcup GmbH in Nürnberg, Germany. Your IP address and technical request data, such as the requested URL and the time of access, are processed to deliver the website. Server logs include IP addresses and are used for operation, troubleshooting, and security. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: my legitimate interest in providing a working, secure website. The hosting provider supplies the server infrastructure.
There is currently no fixed time-based deletion limit for these logs. Their retention depends on the server’s storage and log-cleanup settings; older journal files are removed as storage limits are reached. A fixed maximum period for copies in server backups has not been established.
Contact by email
If you email me, I process your address, message, and any attachments to respond and maintain correspondence. Where GDPR applies, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f): my legitimate interest in communicating with you. Email is hosted on a jointly administered server at Hetzner Online GmbH; the server and backups are in Germany. Technical administrators act under instructions, including an instruction not to read my email.
Email correspondence is currently retained indefinitely, without a scheduled deletion policy. This website’s log-retention settings do not apply to email or mail-server backups.
Appearance preference
If you select light or dark mode, this website stores only that choice in your
browser’s local storage (fdold-theme). It remains until you change it, select
Auto, or clear the site’s browser data. It is not sent to the server and contains
no user identifier. This storage provides your expressly selected appearance
under §25(2)(2) TDDDG. No preference is saved when you use the automatic default.
External links and tracking
All website assets are served locally. There are no analytics, advertising trackers, or embedded social-network widgets. Following an external link, such as LinkedIn, takes you to that provider’s website and its privacy practices.
Your rights
Where GDPR applies, you have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and, where the statutory conditions are met, data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your particular situation. Contact me using the email above. You also have the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority, particularly in the EU country of your habitual residence, workplace, or the alleged infringement. These rights are subject to the conditions of the GDPR.
